“Walk On The Wild Side” (actually more of a social than a walk).
Suggest you eat before we meet inside West Midlands Safari Park outside the Explorers Café at
6.30pm GMT. You could take a picnic! We may see Bats, Moose, Bear, Meerkat, Hippo, Giraffe,
Elephant, etc. Also the SeaLions are billed to put on a show in their 525 seat open-air theatre!
Remember British Summer Time has now ended. It may be cold so bring yourthermal hat & gloves.
Admission cost only £5 per person after 5pm. If you want to go on theAmusement Rides, a
multi-ride wrist band costs £7.50. Closes 9pm. Take A456 from Kidderminster in direction of Bewdley,

Bewdley to Wolverley (via Arley) 17 miles Grade 3 or 8 miles Grade 2 or 4 miles Grade 1
Start time : 9.00am
Start Point : Gardners Meadow Car Park, Bewdley (Follow bridge over river and take immediate left
before sweet shop). Well signposted - Cost £1.80 for day.
We will be following the River Severn from the old river port of Bewdley northwards to Arley.
From there we will pass through Eyemore Wood and along the North Worcestershire Path to Wolverley.
After a short stop at one of the pubs in Wolverley (optional), we will return to Bewdley via East
hams Coppice taking in what must be some of the finest valley walking in the country.
For those that want a shorter walk, there is the option of returning from Arley to Bewdley along
the opposite side of the river (8 miles in total) or there is the option
of catching a steam train back (4 miles in total).

Ledbury Eastern Circular, 10 miles, grade 3.

Start Point: Ledbury Railway Station,(car parking is available there) (see below for train times)
Starting at Ledbury Railway Station, we will walk through the ancient woodlands of Frith Woods before reaching the
village of Petty France. We then make a gradual ascent through picturesque farmland, joining the foothills of the
Malverns at around midday. We will lunch at the top of Midsummer Hill, where the views all around across
Herefordshire, Worcestershire and beyond are arguably the finest to be found along the whole of the Malvern trail.
From here we head to the Obelisk, another notable local beauty spot, before descending through Eastnor Deer Park and
heading back to Ledbury via Kilbury Camp. After completing the walk, take the opportunity to sample the real perry
and cider available at the Brewery Inn-a hidden gem (real ale is also served here).

There is additional parking on Worcester Street and Stanley Road. The bus and railway stations are
nearby. The 296 (norton) bus stops outside
The walk goes past various mill ponds native woodlands, parklands, commons, farms and a historic
church.

German Christmas Market in Birmingham
Come for a stroll on this authentic German Christmas Market in the centre of Birmingham and get into the mood for
christmas. There are plenty of opportunities to try delicious German food and drink like Sausages and Waffeln and
wonderful
Gluehwein to keep us warm or take a spin on the carousell . . .
There will be two meeting times, the first one is at 17.00 outside Snow Hill Train Station (in front of Somerfields)
and the second one is at 19.00 at the top of the stairs at the fountain by the christmas market (or ring us on the
night if you want to come inbetween).
Afterwards we can sample some city centre pubs.

Starting time 10.15 hrs.
Meeting Point: Norton, Stourbridge, DY8. Meet where the following streets meet - Westwood Avenue, Romany Way,
Clent Hill View Road.
Directions: The most easy approach to the walk is from South Road. At the Gigmill Pub turn into The Broadway, take
the second on your right and carry straight on until you come to the meeting point described above (at this point
you can not continue by car and you will see some Green woods etc in front of you). There is amble parking on the
streets named above. (if you are coming via the Ring Road in Stourbridge take the exit towards Kidderminster which
is sort of opposite B&Q, at the next roundabout take the 2nd exit, at the following roundabout carry on straight
over into South Road - you will have the Old White Horse Pub (Carvery) on your right)) - then follow the directions
above from the Gigmill Pub.
Walk description
The Walk goes through lovely countryside and woods, some parts are slightly hilly but nothing major.We start off
heading towards Wollaston then cut down in the direction of Stourton Towards the River Stour Seeing how the other
half live in Prestwood before walking up towards Gothersleyand the Million forest.We will then skirt Enville where
we can stop and have lunch. Before joining the Staffordshire Way heading off in the direction of Kinver. In Kinver
we can stop for a quick pint and then head off in the direction of Whittington towards Bunkers Hill Wood passing
Stourbridge Tennis club then back along the Roman Road to the start point.

Start point: Either Wellington Train Station at 10.05 or 10.30 at Car Park Grid Ref: SJ647102 from Junction 7 of M54
turn left towards Little Wenlock. Straight on at first junction then left at second juction, drive past the hotel to the
2nd car park on the right, just before motorway bridge.
The walk includes fantastic views from the top of The Wrekin. We will also pass through a number of woodlands and stop at
a cafe half-way up The Wrekin.
We will go for a drink in a pub after the walk

Start Point: Eisteddffa Gurig on A44 fifteen minutes drive from Aberystwyth.
The walk involves a very gentle ascent to the top of Plynlimon. At the shelter on top there is then the choice of
going back to the car park on a different path (5 miles) or continuing on to Llyn (lake) llygad Rheidol, The source
of the river Wye, Nant-y-moch reservoir and Dyll Faen Forest (11 miles). This walk is in Britain's top 100 walks!

Coastal Walk Aberystwyth to Borth (taxi back)

The walk is one of Britain's best coastal walks and is featured on page 51 of Walk the winter 2008 edition
(the magazine of The RA) which all members of The RA will have a copy of.
Tuesday evening: we will go out for a meal then explore the pubs
On New Years Eve: some members have volunteered to cook a meal at the hostel. Everyone can then bring there own
drinks to the hostel. Following his we will visit a variety of pubs, bars and maybe even a nightclub!

Weekend Away - Black Mountains (Brecon Beacons National Park) 13/14/15th February 2009

Castle Inn Pub & Bunkhouse website
We will be staying in the bunkhouse next door to The Castle Inn near Talgarth in the Black Mountains. The Castle Inn
is a traditional pub with a cosy atmosphere (and log fire!), and our bunkhouse, housed in a 200 year old converted
barn, is a short stumble away. The sleeping quarters have been newly renovated and include 22 beds, modern showers
and toilets, and central heating.
Pillows and fitted sheets are provided, so all you’ll need to bring is a sleeping bag/duvet and towel.
There is a car park opposite the pub.
The bunkhouse comprises of two rooms, one sleeping 12 and the other 10. If we have a fairly equal split of males/
females then we’ll have a boys’ room and a girls’ room.
Please note that the prices on the website are out of date!
Transport and Directions
The Castle Inn is situated in the county of Powys, in the Black Mountains, on the Eastern side of the Brecon Beacons
National Park. You’ll find it on the A479 between Cwmdu and Talgarth and it will take around 2 hours from The Black
Country.

Saturday – Waun Fach
This walk includes the summit of Waun Fach, views in all directions (from Pen y Fan to Lord Hereford’s Knob), the iron age fort of Castell Dinas, and an exhilarating switchback ridge.
Length: 7 miles/4 ½ hours Grade 3

Sunday – Mynydd Llangorse
This circuit of Mynydd Llangorse provides superb views for remarkably little effort. The path is tree-lined at times
and there are spectacular views over Llangorse Lake to the line of the Brecon Beacons.
Length: 5 ½ miles/3 hours Grade: 2
Start time: 1000h from the bottom of Cockitt Hill
Food (and Drink)
Although there is no kitchen, the pub serves home cooked food at a reasonable price, and the costs quoted include a
cooked breakfast. There is also cereal/toast, etc available.

When we went to visit the pub, they were doing a range of venison dishes, including a venison burger. They also
had a range of ‘hot rock’ dishes, whereby you cook your own food on the table by means of super-heated lumps of
rock!
The pub also has real ales on tap.
Quality wines are also available, again at a reasonable price.

If you’re not having breakfast then obviously you’ll pay less.

We are going to walk on the Saturday from Anchor near Clun to Clarach near Aberystwyth. This is the shortest distance
from the Welsh Border to the Welsh Coast

and walking from Anchor by 6am hopefully finishing at Clarach by 9pm to stay in Aberystwyth on the Saturday night

we will take it easy and rest!(We can either drive home on Sunday or stay Sunday night and drive home on bank holiday Monday)
There will be checkpoints every 15 miles with cars providing food and drink with friendly marshals.
